Under the shade of the trees that have watched over us for several seasons, and surrounded by our family and friends, we stood in our backyard and said yes — to love, to partnership, to a future woven with the same quiet, steady rhythms that have shaped this place.
There was no grand venue — just the backyard (around 110m2 of usable space) that holds our everyday moments, the place where we drink our morning cups of tea and slowly watch the seasons shift… the same backyard where the flowers bloom and fade, where vegetables grow [or don’t] and where life unfolds in its simple, [ideally] unhurried way. It felt right. It felt right to be home.
More than anything, we wanted the whole weekend to feel like us. We chose to include familiar elements of a wedding that were meaningful to us and added a few of our own.
THE NIGHT BEFORE
Our wedding was meant to feel like an extension of our home—warm, welcoming, and relaxed. We wanted our guests to connect and spend quality time together before the big day, so we kicked off the celebrations the night before with dinner and a bonfire. Sharing a meal ahead of time gave us the chance to enjoy meaningful moments with our loved ones, without the rush of a single-day event. It set the perfect tone, making the wedding day itself feel even more relaxed and effortless.
THE BIG DAY
We welcomed everyone back the next morning to share a cuppa at the start of the day. We wanted to be able to greet our guests, and relax into the moment before everything began.
THE CEREMONY
We stood beneath the canopy, surrounded by the people who make our world feel whole. Our ceremony was a deeply personal reflection of who we are — woven with elements of our Irish heritage that honoured the past while embracing the future. The readings, the music, and the symbolism throughout were chosen with care, each a quiet echo of where we come from. It was a moment of stillness, of connection, of profound meaning – a fleeting, yet timeless memory we will hold forever.
THE CELEBRATION
After the ceremony, our backyard transformed into a lively garden party. Communal tables were set, BBQs were fired up, and conversation and laughter filled the space. It was the kind of afternoon you never want to end—the kind where time slows down just enough to soak in every smile, every embrace, every bit of magic in the air. And fittingly, we were among the last to leave
THE MAGIC OF HOME
Having our wedding in our backyard felt like the truest reflection of who we are. If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels like home, this one is proof that the simplest celebrations are often the most memorable.
